The role of the Relief Housing Support Officer (Casual) is to provide support to our experienced Housing colleagues on a casual basis. The main duties are:

  • Under the direction of the Supported Housing Manager, to be responsible for the smooth running of the project ensuring health and safety is maintained, that the clients comply with the project’s rules and that the shifts function smoothly.

  • Whilst on the shift to assist clients to resolve problems and develop life skills that will enable them to live at One YMCA and that enables them to move to more appropriate medium- and long-term accommodation.


Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

1. Shift Responsibilities

  • Together with the Supported Housing Manager, to be responsible for the smooth running of the projects and for ensuring that the building operates safely.
  • Ensure Health and Safety Policy and Procedures are implemented.
  • Ensure any volunteers in the project are given relevant information and are appropriately briefed.
  • Supervise clients ensuring that they are complying with project rules. Where clients breach rules taking appropriate action following One YMCA’s procedures and ensuring theses are recorded.
  • Ensuring colleagues are fully briefed about what is going on and action taken.
  • Prepare rooms for new clients.
  • Keep the project tidy.
  • Help to prepare meals on occasions and generally ensure the smooth running of the domestic services within the project.
  • Be available to talk to clients, provide them with a safe space to talk where this is appropriate and ensure that any relevant issues raised by clients are recorded and communicated to relevant staff.
  • To be responsible for any duties directed by the Supported Housing Manager and other colleagues.

  • Resident Activities
  • To promote One YMCA’s programme of activities to clients encouraging maximum participation.
  • Risk Assessments / Management
  • To ensure that all issues relating to risk and public safety are recorded and communicated to the appropriate staff in One YMCA and other agencies.
  • To ensure that children are not allowed access to the project at any time.

  • Other Responsibilities
  • To promote One YMCA in all interactions with other agencies.
  • To carry out all duties within the spirit of One YMCA’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • To ensure that the project’s Confidentiality Policy and Procedures are implemented and complied with.
